Catching Up
Things have been pretty busy lately, so we'll play a little catch-up today.
Last week was another delightful lunch: scallops, salmon & a piece of halibut on a bed of shrimp all wrapped up in phyllo pastry, steamed gai-lan, and a little risotto. It was great! Brannen's wary look was completely unwarranted.

This week, it was that old favourite - paella. Shrimp, clams, mussels, chicken, chorizo, tender baby squid, red peppers, all in a bed of perfectly cooked rice. What more can I say, except, "When are those hammocks getting here?"

Now, I can see that it would be easy for someone to get the idea that all we did was sit around and eat. Not true, and to prove it, here's a picture of Carson, working his fingers to the bone, in a safe way:

That's it for This Week at PFB. Tune in next week for more.

Welcome Back!

Poor Jay. Can't get a break.
A couple of weeks ago, his left index finger wandered just a little too close to the blade of the table saw, and in the blink of an eye, well, it got bit.
It was a small bite, but it hurt, it bled, and it embarrassed the hell out of Jay.
Anyway, he took some time off work to let things heal up a bit, and when he came back this week, he was probably hoping that his embarrassing episode would be forgotten.
No such luck.
Brannen & Amanda worked into the wee hours to create a culinary masterpiece that would appropriately commemorate Jay's little booboo. Mmmmm...cherry....

Just In Time

Wednesday is a popular day at the shop - it's the halfway point of the week, and Pete makes lunch for The Men. Last Wednesday, it was an old favourite from last year: Choucroute, loosely based on a recipe by Vancouver's own Iron Chef, Rob Feenie.
Some canned choucroute, onions, garlic, juniper berries, coriander, cloves & bay leaf, some triple smoked bacon, a pork hock, some smoked pork loin, some potatoes, some sausages...Simmer everything for a couple of hours in some Reisling wine, and dig in.
Another great Wednesday lunch!
Even Bill, who is not a big lunch guy, and who just happened to drop by at the stroke of noon, couldn't resist.
